So far I have loved being part of JU! I have learned so much. Seriously. I have learned about politics and personal relations, religion and lots of other things. I know way more about current events too since joining JU. I hate watching the news because it usually makes me sick or depressed. On JU I can choose what stuff I want to know about. Yea!
Another positive side effect is that it has edged me back toward creative writing. Maybe blogging doesn’t really count as creative writing, but at least I’m writing! I find myself day dreaming (and sometimes even dreaming at night) about catchy titles and witty content that will garner attention and praise. Which is a nearly impossible task with all the intelligent/witty/hilarious JU ers out there!!!
I am also slowly learning the lingo. I have never been one to mince words…including using acronyms or abreviations. People usually laugh at my wordy text messages. However, here it is somehow exciting to try to figure out what those capital letters mean. Here are some I have figured out so far (let me know if I’m wrong) and some I am clueless on:
OMG – Oh my gosh/goodness/etc.
SIL – Sister in Law
BTW – By the way
LMAO – Laughing my a** off
JFC – ????
I have also learned a great deal about blogging and (as I mentioned in my welcome article) surviving the JU culture. Here is my own little proverb style version of the lessons I’ve learned:
A lot of people have a lot of really good things to say; some people are just jerks.
If you want to guarantee a response to your comment, make sure it’s controversial or at least sarcastic.
Outsiders are welcome…to look in from the outside!
Don’t judge a person by one post; you never know how hungry, tired, drunk, angry, irritated, distracted, lonely…they were when they wrote it.
I’m sure there are more, but I’m running out of creative juices…
I really have enjoyed JU and look forward to sticking around for a long time to come.
